...from Győr to the world

Career Orientation Open Day at Audi Hungaria

2024. 11. 26.

We could say that the gust of wind blew the numerous interactive booths into a heap that are awaiting the visitors at the Career Orientation Open House of Audi Hungaria’s Project and Training Centre... but that would only be true regarding the weather and not the efforts. Almost 500 visitors attended the open house of career orientation organized by Audi Akadémia.

This is the seventh year of our colleagues preparing spectacular and utmost creative solutions in order to present the professions of the automotive industry to young people and their families who are about to choose a career.

Dalma Vajda-Kovács, chief organizer of the open house guided us among the bustling booths. During the walk we felt as if we were visiting Mobilis Interactive Exhibition Centre or Futura.

In one of the halls, greenhouse emission factors were simulated, and the participants were given the task of building a program with smart tools to limit the excessive temperature. After a brief professional instruction, the enthusiastic elementary school beginner programmers managed to open the window of the small mock greenhouse, and the built-in fan was activated at the press of a button. As we learnt, most people consider programming to be, if not a supernatural skill, then a very complicated matter – but here, many people have been inspired to do it by experiencing it simply, quickly and successfully.

Jusztin arrived to the open house with his parents as a seventh grader   interested in the automotive industry, more specifically, mechatronics. They were most impressed by the influence and advice they received first-hand from the students participating in dual vocational training. There were many interested visitors at the cutting stations as well who could try engraving with CNC and laser cutting tools. Not far from there, children could try controlling robots, while the bravest participants could also play tic-tac-toe against them. The graduate students of Győri SZC Lukács Sándor Járműipari és Gépészeti Technikum és Kollégium (Lukács Sándor Automotive and Engineering Technical College and Dormitory of Győr Vocational Centre) provided an insight to the world of pneumatics, where the attendees could try to operate machines with compressed air. Dominik, a fifth grader told us that they like taking part in this event because they can experience everything for themselves and there is nothing they cannot touch for fear of ruining it.

Dalma, what is the mission of the company’s academy?

Our most important task is to train new recruits for Audi Hungaria, who can join our company with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge and becoming a full-fledged employee right after school. They learn the theoretical part at school and the dual vocational training will provide a solid practical knowledge to them here, in the real environment of the factory.

What kind of activities do you do and services you provide?

Our other, similarly important activity in addition to vocational training is adult education. Our employees can achieve additional relevant knowledge through our professional, non-professional and IT trainings.

What is the goal of the festival?

Through our open house we show our training centre, the professions and methods we teach, and our professional teachers to young people and their families who are about to choose their career path. They can get first-hand information and stories from our current students, who are working at the booths dressed in red coats with Audi’s logo. They play the main role in most of our activities and we are very proud of them helping the interested children to explore our training centre and the equipment we have here. In my opinion, this is the most authentic way to give them a real impression of what we do.

What kind of activities and engagement do you prepare for the open house?

We prepared 25 stations that introduce all 12 professions we teach via interactive tasks. They can look at the models we are currently manufacturing, Audi Q3 and CUPRA Terramar. We have training cars of these models that the students can take apart and re-assemble as part of their daily practical training. We also invite our partner institutions: the automotive suppliers who participate in the dual vocational training are also present as exhibitors, as well as the educational institutions themselves. We have a close relationship with Széchenyi István University: for example, we manufacture components for the SZEngine Formula Student team for their machining activities, so they are also present, as well as the e-sports team, to give an extra buzz to the event with simulators and VR glasses.

What captures the interest of today’s teenagers? Which are the most interesting booths?

Robots are always a hit at the show because they are a new technology, and it is a rare chance to actually see a working manufacturing robot first-hand. Visitors also get the chance to control and operate them. VR is still very popular, despite not being a pioneering innovation of IT anymore: the participants can try it as a manufacturing solution rather than a game. They can experience welding for the first time through our VR welding task and they can try themselves in a welding cell after that.

What are the most popular professions based on the experience of the previous years? Which captures the interest of the students the most?

Mechatronics is clearly the most popular profession alongside commerce; this has been the trend for years. Students’ awareness in choosing a career path varies: some arrive with specific plans, while others decide their future based on the influence of the Open House. The employees of the Pedagogical Professional Services are also present at our event, and they offer advice to the more uncertain students, who have not made up their minds about their career paths yet.

Is the dual vocational training offered by Audi Hungaria prestigious?

Yes, it is! We work hand in hand with our partner schools as we also participate in their Open Houses. Our experience is that many students arrive there, similarly to our open house, with specific plans: they choose one of our five partner schools because of the dual vocational training provided by Audi Hungaria. Students also arrive from the neighbouring counties because of the opportunities offered by our company, and today, for example, we had visitors from other parts of Hungary as well. I think it is also a true testimony to our professional work we do that our students do very well in the national Szakma Sztár competition year after year, and the students of Audi Hungaria are often on the podium at our Group's international professional competitions.

What are the advantages of studying here? What do we offer to the students?

The practical vocational training we offer perfectly complements the theoretical structure of Hungarian education. Students can obtain actual practical skills from our professional teachers who possess immerse knowledge and experience, using the state-of-the-art equipment we have here, and can gain actual experience in a real manufacturing environment during their school years.
