Nikolett Végh: IT Security in the World of Manufacturing #OnThisDay

2025. 05. 21.

On May 21st, Nikolett Végh, a colleague in our company's IT security department, celebrates her 11th anniversary. In our article, she recalls how she overcame initial obstacles, what her most memorable moment was, and why she would still choose the four rings today.

Can you recall what it was like to apply to the company over ten years ago?

Nikolett Végh: I was very happy when I was accepted! The road here was rocky, after several applications I finally made it to the first interview, and then I had to prove myself on a complex selection day. We were given a group task with the other applicants, had to stand our ground in conflict situations, and at the end of the day, we had to present an individual presentation to a small committee. All of this in professional topics. After many trials, it was a real success to start the first working day.

What are you currently working on in the IT field?

NV: I am an IT Security Architect. In my work, I collaborate in a matrix organization with members of the IT Security and IT Architecture teams. Beyond my position, I have several roles.

On the one hand, I participate in all IT projects or IT-related changes that have IT architecture or IT security relevance. In this context, I get involved in the development of the planned solution, where I incorporate the aspects necessary to meet internal and external requirements into the process. If necessary, I formulate additional requirements and then approve the implementation of the plan.

On the other hand, I also have operational tasks, which include overseeing various IT security control points. These are security gates within an IT process where I check whether the given requirement is in line with the IT Security and IT Architecture guidelines and expectations. I am a member of the Audi Hungaria IT security incident response team and currently the professional project manager of several network security projects. In addition, colleagues often approach me with consulting questions regarding plans and requirements.

What was the most memorable moment in your professional career during your time here?

NV: The most defining moment was when I got the opportunity to take on the role of IT Security Architect. This position did not exist at Audi Hungaria before, it was a real challenge to find its place and integrate it into the existing environment so that it became an integral part of the current IT processes. This period involved a lot of learning and organization, which I look back on fondly.

How do you define success? Could you highlight a project among many?

NV: Success for me is when I work on projects with colleagues where, in addition to the professional challenge, we can achieve real progress in terms of technological maturity. This is of particular importance in the context of the currently much-discussed NIS2, and it is also the realization of a long-standing plan at the company. In addition, the project team is great.

What do we mean by NIS2?

NV: NIS2 is the European Union's requirement for networks and information systems, which aims to strengthen protection against digital threats on a legal basis. The EU requirements are integrated into the legal frameworks by the national legislators, which means that there may be differences in the release times and content of the requirements between the EU member states. Audi Hungaria is among the affected organizations, so in addition to implementing the directive, the different regulatory environments also pose a challenge for us, as the parent company in Germany has not yet issued this requirement package, and it is likely to contain different provisions compared to the Győr site.

What drives you in everyday life? What are you most proud of?

NV: It is a great joy to be a useful member of the team, and it always feels good when colleagues turn to me with questions or missing information. I am proud to be among those who should be asked. The project team consists of members of different nationalities and native languages, and our fields of expertise are also very diverse. The challenge is to communicate in a way that does not include TLA (three-letter acronyms) and some English technical term.

What is your superpower?

NV: My superpower is my perseverance and patience. I can explain the same thing up to five times in different words. Joking aside, the topics I mentioned earlier are all ones where people come to me with questions, and that is motivating for me.

Why did you choose Audi Hungaria?

NV: Due to the size of our IT network and the complexity of the organization, it is a real challenge to work here from a professional point of view, which is hard to find within Hungary. I also think about the fact that, in addition to production, many services run at the site, which have different needs and expectations. This is an attraction that is hard to compete with.

What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Audi Hungaria?

NV: Opportunity. I am very grateful to the company for giving me the opportunity and for finding the professional path I am on now.
