News special engine types: 1.2 and 1.4 litre four-cylinder Otto engines from Győr

Mass production of the new 1.2 and 1.4 litre four-cylinder Otto engines has started at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.The main components of the engine — such as the crankcase, the cylinder head and the crankshaft — are also manufactured at Audi Hungaria. The new power source is to be installed, among others, in the new Audi A3 and VW Golf.

 “Over recent years, we have become the central supplier of engines to the Audi and Volkswagen Group. Our goal is to expand the product range of Audi Hungaria with new, innovative and efficient power sources continuously. This way we can inspire our clients with new products”, said Thomas Faustmann, Chief Executive Officer of Audi Hungaria.

The 1.2 and 1.4 litre four-cylinder Otto engines have a power of 63 to 103 kW and a torque of 165 to 250 Nm. In addition, they combine numerous efficient technologies, such as the most modern technologies of direct injection and turbocharging, and also satisfy the requirements of the Euro 6 plus environmental standard. Compared to their predecessor, their consumption has dropped by 8–10 percent on average.

 “The advantage of the new engines lies in the fact that, due to the modular construction, they can be installed in several models of the corporation. Therefore, we intend to manufacture these power sources in a higher volume in future”, said Achim Heinfling, Managing Director of Audi Hungaria in charge of engine production. The new engine will be installed, among others, in the successor of Audi A3, as well as in VW Polo and VW Golf models.

The new 1.2 and 1.4 litre engines supplement the existing range of four-cylinder engines of engine production. In the future, approximately 1,500 1.2 and 1.4 litre four-cylinder Otto engines will be manufactured per day.

Currently Audi Hungaria manufactures four-, five-, six-, eight-, ten- and twelve-cylinder diesel and petrol engines. Out of the company’s approximately 8,600 employees, more than 5,000 work at engine manufacturing. Over the first six months of the year, the company has manufactured 1,039,026 engines.
