• Significant contribution to the competitiveness of the region

Győr, July 3, 2014. – The development of the Győr/Pér airfield has been completed and tested today from the air too by the participants of the investment. Zsolt Borkai, mayor of Győr, and László Vadász, managing director of the operator -Győr-Pér Airport Kft. – showed the completed developments during a test flight, among others, to Péter Szíjjártó, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations, and Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.

“The airport at Pér is of strategic importance for Audi Hungaria”, said Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of the engine and car manufacturer. “There is no better proof for this than the fact that last year over 30 000 passengers flew between the Audi factory in Győr and its headquarters in Ingolstadt. The fast and efficient organization of the official trips further increases the flexibility and efficiency of our company,” said Thomas Faustmann.”

The town of Győr is one of most important economic, cultural and tourist centres of Hungary. For this it is inevitable to have a well-developed infrastructure in place, which has further grown as a result of the development of the airport, thus creating new opportunities for the participants of the economy and the people living here. Our aim is that it should open new opportunities for tourism as well in the long term”, said Zsolt Borkai, mayor of the town of Győr with county rights. Mr. Borkai himself has a pilot licence for small planes.

As a result of the developments the 1 450 meter runway was extended by 780 meters, and its load-bearing capacity has also been significantly increased. The lighting system of the airport has also been updated, and the Instrumental Landing System-ILS is also up and running, which greatly increases flight safety, and makes take-off and landing possible even when weather conditions are unfavourable. Now the airport can take Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 category planes too.

Thanks to its partners the Győr-Pér airport – successfully operating since 2003 – is continuously expanding and developing. “In the past ten years we recorded 49 375 flying operations and welcomed 165 470 passengers on board”, said László Vadász, managing director of the Győr-Pér Airport Kft. In addition to passenger traffic, freight traffic is also important as a total of 2 943 freight planes have used our airport carrying in all 1 582 261 kg of goods.”

As a result of the developments due to the successful cooperation between the Hungarian state, the town of Győr and Audi Hungaria, the Győr-Pér airport has come second among the Hungarian civil aviation airports in terms of technical conditions.
