Five-Cylinder Model from Győr is “International Engine of the Year”

Győr, 21 June 2017—Audi’s 2.5L TFSI engine has won the “International Engine of the Year” award in the 2-2.5L category. The engine has been manufactured at Audi Hungaria since 2008 and won the prestigious award for the 8th time in a row.

Members of the jury praised the unique sound of the engine beside its outstanding performance. The sound of the five-cylinder model resembles the Group B rally engines from the 80’s. The newly developed five-cylinder engine is 26 kilograms lighter than its previous version, mostly because of the crankcase, which is now made of light metal. Doing so, developers of Audi managed to optimize axle weight distribution, which further enhances the dynamic properties.

A 2.5L  TFSI engine works in the Audi TT RS  Coupé, the TT RS Roadster and the RS 3 Limousine models, all of which are manufactured at Audi Hungaria. Furthermore, this engine drives the RS 3 Sportback, too.

With its 400 HP performance and 480 Nm torque, this is the most powerful five-cylinder serial engine in the world. It accelerates the RS 3 Limousine and the RS 3 Sportback from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed of both models is 250 km/h (regulated) or 280 km/h (optional).

The “International Engine of the Year” award has been given annually by an international jury of 65 motorsport journalists in several categories since 1999. Audi won the worldwide renowned award for the 13^th time this year.

1,926,638 engines were manufactured at Audi Hungaria last year, including 9,113 five-cylinder Otto-engines. With this performance, Audi Hungaria continues to be the world’s largest engine factory, which supplies engines to over 30 sites of the Volkswagen Group. The wide performance spectrum of the engines manufactured in Győr ranges from 63 kW (86 PS) up to 449 kW (610 PS).
