In the Wind: Edit Miklós Visits Audi Hungaria Wind Tunnel for Tests

2017. 10. 25.

Győr, 25 October 2017 – Audi Hungaria hosted a unique event today: alpine skier Edit Miklós visited the four-ring company to test her complete ski outfit in the plant’s state-of-the-art wind tunnel. The purpose of the test was to reduce wind resistance by optimising her body posture, at a maximum wind speed of 90 km/h.

“Today’s ‘skiing’ was a unique experience for me, too – I really enjoyed Audi’s wind tunnel. As a skier, it is critical for me to be able to control my movements so as to achieve the highest speed with the lowest wind resistance possible,” Edit Miklós said.
They employed two measurement devices to assess horizontal forces and the separation of the airflow, which was made visible through the use of smoke.

The 250 square meter wind tunnel facility is used to test Audi models manufactured in Győr and to conduct various aero-acoustic tests on the cars. Air in the wind tunnel, with a maximum air mass flow of 320,000 m3/hour, is accelerated by a three-tonne fan to speeds reaching 160 km/h, equivalent to severe gale-force winds.
