Audi Hungaria: 20 years of vehicle production in Győr

Győr, 26 April 2018—Double anniversary at Audi Hungaria: the company is celebrating the 25^th anniversary of its establishment, while the success story of vehicle production in Győr started 20 years ago. The company first started the production of the Audi TT in 1998. Currently, beside the Coupé and Roadster versions of the sport model, the full production processes of the Audi A3 Limousine and A3 Cabriolet models are also based in Győr. The serial production of Audi Q3, the first Győr-made SUV will be launched this year.

“20 years ago we opened a brand new chapter in the history of our company: Vehicle production in Győr started with a particularly sporty model, the Audi TT Coupé in 1998”, Achim Heinfling, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt said. “Ever since, we are making each four-ring model in Győr with a lot of passion and utmost accuracy. Furthermore, we are further extending our model portfolio with the first premium-compact SUV that will be manufactured in Hungary, the Audi Q3 model.”

Vehicle production started in close cooperation with the Ingolstadt Audi factory.  The car bodies, which were manufactured and painted in Ingolstadt, arrived on railway to Győr, where the cars were assembled. The first model of the Győr-based vehicle production was the Audi TT Coupé. With its unique design, sporty looks and driving dynamics it has become a signature brand in Hungary over the past 20 years. The design icon was introduced in 1995, at IAA in Frankfurt, and it has been extremely popular around the world ever since.

Since 2014, the third generation of the Audi TT is being manufactured at Audi Hungaria in its full production depth. The serial production of the strongest TT ever, the new Audi TT RS was launched in 2016: its newly developed 5-cylinder engine (also made in Győr), with a peak performance of 400 HP, gives the car its unique and unmistakable sound.

A whole new era began in Győr at Audi Hungaria in 2013, with a vehicle factory that covers the full production process. “Meanwhile, over 4,000 colleagues are working at the department of Vehicle Production”, Arnd-Robert Sponagel, Member of the Board of Management for Vehicle Production of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. said. “We are making our cars in full production depth and with great expertise, and we are can’t wait for the serial production of Győr’s first SUV, the Audi Q3.”

Since 1998, a total of 1,150,000 vehicles have been manufactured in Győr, including over 600,000 Audi TT models.
