Győr, October 7, 2020 – Solar energy from the highest level: in the joint project of Audi Hungaria and E.ON Hungária Group, Europe’s largest rooftop solar park has been established on a roof surface of 160,000 square metres of Audi Hungaria’s two logistics centres. The 12-megawatt high-performance solar panel park has been symbolically installed today by Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Kössler, member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics of Audi AG, , Dr. Karsten Wildberger, CEO of E.ON SE, Alfons Dintner, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria, Attila Kiss, CEO of E.ON Hungária Group and Prof. Dr. András Csaba Dézsi, Mayor of Győr.
Europe’s largest rooftop solar panel park was built in Győr. The world-class, on the continent unique investment was carried out in the cooperation of AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. and E.ON Hungária Group.
The 12-megawatt high-performance solar panel park has been established on the roof surface of 160,000 square metres of Audi Hungaria’s logistics centre. The power plant, which consists of more than 36,000 solar panels, generates more than 9.5 GWh energy per year. This amount of energy corresponds to the annual energy requiremennts of 3,800 households. Thanks to green electricity produced from renewable resources, about 4,900 tons less CO2 is released into the air.

For Audi Hungaria, sustainability is a basic principle. In this spirit, it has has made significant progress in reducing energy consumption, CO2 emissions, water consumption and quantity of waste to be dumped. 75 percent of the company's energy supply is already covered by renewable geothermal energy, and more than 99 percent of the company's waste is recycled.
The E.ON Hungária Group invested around 55,000 working hours into construction of the solar power plant and will be responsible for its operation for the next 25 years. In line with Hungary’s climate and energy strategy, the energy company is committed to the broad deployment of sustainable and economical solar energy. The whole international E.ON Group aims to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by half by 2030, and to operate completely carbon neutral by 2050.
