Since 2008, Audi Hungaria has been producing the 2.5-litre five-cylinder TFSI engine that is at the heart of the Audi RS 3 and is on the road worldwide. The power source has an output of 287 to 294 kW (390–400 hp) and the staff of the Four Rings have produced more than 165,000 units to date. Production takes place in the so-called "Bock" assembly shop of the Győr engine factory – entirely by hand, without robots, by highly skilled technicians.
The company's specialists are working on the five-cylinder engine in 21 workstations covering more than 1,000 m². The main components – such as the connecting rod and the plasma-coated crankcase – are also made in Győr. State-of-the-art technologies and lightweight construction solutions ensure outstanding performance and efficiency in powertrain production. The aluminum crankcase, magnesium alloy components and plasma-coated cylinder walls contribute to making the five-cylinder engine not only powerful but also lightweight. The specialists carry out final quality checks, such as cold and heat tests, to ensure that the engine is running smoothly before it is shipped to Ingolstadt, where the Audi RS 3’s “marriage” takes place – the powertrain and the bodywork are joined.
"We are proud that Audi Hungaria is producing this legendary engine, which has been one of the cornerstones of Audi technology for nearly five decades. Each engine is unique and reflects the unparalleled expertise and commitment of our employees," emphasised Peter Will, Director for Engine Production at Audi Hungaria.
