Audi Hungaria's first CUPRA Terramar rolls off the line

Győr, September 20, 2024 – Today, Audi Hungaria has officially launched the series production of the CUPRA Terramar designed in Barcelona and manufactured in Győr. The company in Győr announced in 2022 that it would be expanding its vehicle production portfolio to include a new product from another brand of the Group. In addition to the Audi Q3 and Q3 Sportback models, 3,500 employees will be working on the CUPRA Terramar in Győr in the future.

Born in Barcelona, Made in Győr: Under this motto, the first CUPRA Terramar has rolled off the production line at Audi Hungaria in Győr today. Preparations for production began in 2021. Employees have been prepared in various workshops and training sessions since September 2022.

“The highly qualified employees of Audi Hungaria produce more than 170,000 vehicles from Győr for the world every year. In the 31-year history of our company, only Audi models have rolled off the production line, but today is an important day because we are the first Audi plant to manufacture a vehicle from a sister brand. With our more than 12,000 employees, we are ready for the future,” says the Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria.

“We are delighted that our vehicle production has been expanded to include a model from another brand. Our employees have demonstrated their remarkable flexibility and competence by seamlessly integrating the CUPRA Terramar into our existing production infrastructure, creating numerous synergies in our manufacturing processes. We are proud to open a new chapter in the history of our vehicle plant through our cooperation with CUPRA,” says Zoltán Les, Member of the Board of Management for Vehicle Production at Audi Hungaria.

Our employees have successfully integrated the Audi and CUPRA models into the same production system by working closely with production planning and development. The supply chain teams successfully sourced the parts needed to manufacture the product from the closest location, ensuring the most cost-efficient solution. This not only reduces transportation costs, but also CO2 emissions.

“With today’s milestone, CUPRA takes an important step forward in the brand’s journey. With the CUPRA Terramar, we will not only grow our product portfolio but at the same time help our brand grow-up by bringing the CUPRA mindset to new customers and new growing segments, without losing our rebellious and challenger spirit,” says Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA.
