Since 2019, the Effect 2030 Award has been organised by the Effect Association every year to recognise the environmental, social and governance (ESG) solutions of domestic companies. The award recognises companies for their compliance with ESG principles and their consequent achievements.
Audi Hungaria, taking the lead in ESG in Hungary, reached the finals with four topics and also won the grand prize: the company won first place in the "Green Balance – Circular Economy Area" category with its Aluminium Closed Loop project.
Audi Hungaria's Aluminium Closed Loop project started in 2021. This is when the company in Győr placed the aluminum used in its production into a closed loop. As part of the closed loop, aluminum waste from the production process is returned to the supplier, who produces new aluminum coils of identical quality and returns them to Audi Hungaria as raw material, so this way the cycle continues and ensures sustainable production. As the production of aluminum from primary raw material is a highly energy-intensive process, the supplier of the raw material can achieve energy savings of approximately 95% by using the returned high quality aluminum waste.
Sustainable, environmentally friendly manufacturing has been a priority for Audi Hungaria since its foundation and has been balance sheet carbon neutral since 2020.
The Effekt 2030 Award is not the only environmental award the company has received this year: this year Audi Hungaria won a special Environment award in the REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) rate category at the HVG Green Leaders Award, as the company meets an exceptionally high proportion of its energy needs from renewable energy sources.
