In recent years, there has also been an increasing focus on the production of electric motors, which the company started in 2018. Audi Hungaria manufactures PPE drives on an area of around 15,000 square meters, which consists of the manufacturing of stator and transmission components and the assembly of drives. To date, nearly 48,000 new electric drives for models based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, jointly developed with Porsche, have been produced by the company’s highly skilled employees. The electric drives will be used in the Audi Q6 e-tron models, among others. Today also marks the launch of the 45 millionth powertrain in the company’s 31-year history – and it happens to be a PPE drive.
“Audi Hungaria’s experience is spanning more than three decades and the outstanding expertise of our employees is already proven by 45 million powertrains – combustion engines and electric motors as well. We continue to aim to make efficient use of the capacity of our factories with future-oriented projects. I am proud of Audi Hungaria’s flexibility in responding to the challenges of the automotive industry and the fact that we remain prepared for dynamic changes,” said Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria.
Of the 45 million powertrains, more than 22 million are four-cylinder Otto-engines, and more than 11 million are four-cylinder diesel engines. The number of electric drives has been steadily increasing in recent years, with more than 580,000 units produced at the Audi Hungaria powertrain factory since 2018 until this year.
“As a production site in Győr, Audi Hungaria has been a key pillar of the Audi and Volkswagen Group’s international production network for decades. In the era of the transition to electromobility, we need cutting-edge technology, solid expertise and a dedicated team. Since September, as a new member of the Board of Management, I see day by day that the production team, with its efficient processes and outstanding competences, is ready for the challenges of both the present and the future. We are not stopping here, our next target is the 50 millionth powertrain” – said Peter Will, member of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria responsible for Powertrain Production.
The history of powertrain production at Audi Hungaria began in 1994, with a four-cylinder, five-valve unit. Over the years, the powertrain production portfolio has been continuously expanded with the introduction of new internal combustion engine types from 3 to 10 cylinders, as well as the latest generation of high-efficiency electric drives. Every year, the company’s employees manufacture nearly two million powertrains for the Volkswagen Group worldwide.
