“Audi Hungaria has been a key player in the Audi and Volkswagen Group for more than 30 years. In that time, we have grown to become the world's largest powertrain plant. In addition, more than 170,000 Audi brand cars roll off the production line every year. Our company is entering a new era with Terramar, as Audi is producing a model of a sister brand for the first time in Győr This not only optimizes synergies within the Group, but also ensures high the long-term competitiveness of Audi Hungaria. With our highly qualified colleagues, we are well equipped for the future of vehicle production,” says Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria.
The CUPRA TerraMar has been presented in Barcelona to hundreds of international media representatives, including Hungarian journalists. This sporty and boldly designed SUV model will be produced in Győr with various powertrain options: an internal combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) version.
“Since 2022, preparations for the CUPRA Terramar project have been underway at our vehicle plant. The new model has been integrated into our existing production structure to ensure synergies in our production processes. With the help of our colleagues, the first Terramar will soon roll off the production line in Győr. We are proud to produce not only Audi but also CUPRA Terramar models – from Győr to the world and to the CUPRA world,” says Zoltán Les, Member of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria responsible for vehicle production.
Since September 2022, employees have been trained in a series of workshops and training sessions, and have also had the opportunity to gain experience in assembling the pilot cars. The CUPRA model will also introduce a number of new product features, and to be acquainted with these, the company has provided additional training to more than 200 employees, including knowledge on how the new robots work. In the paint shop, for instance, a brand new robotic cell will seal the steel bonnets of the Terramar models.
CUPRA and Audi Hungaria’s shared history has not just begun, as Audi Hungaria’s pride and joy, the legendary five-cylinder petrol engine brings to life the CUPRA Formentor models as well.
